With all the hot and humid weather we have been having I thought it would be worth reviewing the signs of heat stroke in animals.

Heavy panting
Rapid pulse
Wobbly gait
Weakness
Fainting
Exhaustion
Bright red or bluish tongue
Inside of ears bright red

If you suspect heat stress or heat exhaustion which are the milder forms before the more severe heat stroke do the following: Bring inside, if that is not possible get them into shade Cool the animal with a hose or water in a tub Cover with a wet towel Place ice pack on head
If you suspect the more severe heat stroke hose animal down, cover with wet towel and ice packs and rush to the closest Veterinary Hospital.

Take care out there and stay cool everyone!
